Q: I thought margerine was non vegan and I am pretty sure it is non vegan, but I see it in a lot of vegan bakery recipes!!

A: Margarine is primarily made with plant oils. However, in their quest to imitate butter most manufacturers put whey in their product, which makes it non-vegan. There are several vegan options, though. Earth Balance non-hydrogenated spread is completely free of animal ingredients, tastes really good (I was always a real butter person, so I'm picky,) and bakes and cooks well. One of the Smart Balance varieties is also vegan and there's a brand that I think is called Willow Run that is animal-free, too.
